Class was very interesting today going over the rest of chapter 2. I really didn’t realize that there was going to be such a deficiency of people to fill the positions that will be open when the baby boomers retire. There is an aging workforce that we are dealing with right now. We will not be able to fill the void of jobs. We don’t have the labor supply to fill these jobs. The jobs are high level positions and there won’t be enough people who are in the position to fill those jobs. It is hard to fathom this concept because there are so many people in the US, but supposedly it is going to happen in the next 10-20 years and we need to prepare ourselves for it. If this does happen, then there should be minimal unemployment in our country, which is a drastic change than what it is now.
Employee empowerment is huge to the success of a business. Employees need to feel that they are a part of something larger than themselves and that they have a say in what goes on. They need to feel that they are cared for and they are important. I feel that this is not happening in many companies and that that is why there is no loyalty to companies anymore. Many companies have a high turnover rate because everyone is selfishly looking for something better, watching out for only themselves, and not caring about the needs of others.
